Week 1: Jesus Got Angry

What? Jesus got angry?!? Actually, I think that's really a wonderful example and a reminder to us that it's ok to get upset or angry when we see injustice or wrong taking place. Jesus was upset because he saw people desecrating His Father's house. How many times to I stand aside when I see wrong going on around me? Maybe this is a message for me to step up and do something about it! That doesn't mean it is ok for us to lash out or treat people with disrespect, but I think it is a challenge for us to step up and do the right thing, even if it may not be easy or if it causes controversy.

As far as the abusing our bodies questions goes, that brings me back to the idea of taking really good care of myself over lent. So far so good (but we're only on day two). It's funny how when you make a decision to do something, God can remind you about it in little ways throughout your day.

My prayer for today is for God to show me the areas in my life when I do need reconciliation with people. Also, I want to have the guts to step up and say something or help out when God is calling me to do that.

  1. I think that the main reason that we don't stand up for what we believe in is because we think that people will treat us diffrently for standing up for what we believe in. But we are looking too narrow-minded. Like it says in Matthew 25:40 "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me" if we stand up for what is right, we will recieve a greater reward in heaven. I think another reason that we don't stand up for what is right is that sometimes that we think we are better than the person being mistreated. We just need to take a step back and look at reality and realize that we aren't any better than our neighbor. I pray that the Holy Spirit gives me the courage to stand up for what I believe in, even if that means standing up against my friends or family. I guess we just need to show others that we are Christrians by our love (like the song).
